The new addition to a Prospect bungalow utilises basic sustainable principles and contemporary materials to provide a respectful and aesthically appealing design solution.

Comprising a kitchen, new informal entry, laundry, bathroom and study/bedroom, the addition opens up to the existing family room, deck and landscaped areas from the main living rooms to give a great sense of space and tranquility.

The solar passive design allows excellent sun penetration in winter into the main

open living areas but makes use of existing deciduous trees, generous overhangs and cross ventilation to cool in summer.

Other sustainable principles used in this design includes high levels of insulation in walls and ceilings and the installation of a 15,000 litre rainwater tank for use internally and for the garden.

A good architect/client/builder relationship has provided an excellent outcome that the owners are proud of.

01 R2.5 thermal & acoustic insulation batts are installed in all external timber framed walls. R3.0 building blanket and sisalation in the ceiling (total R3.5)
02 Pergola forms the south facing entry. 15,000L rain water tank supplies water to the addition.
03 Louvre windows to the north open to allow cross flow ventilation through the house & new addition.
04 The south facing entry under construction.
05 EcoPly cladding & corrugated zincalume cladding feature to all elevations of the addition.
