An inner city warehouse was converted into a calming and healthy environment for client Therapia, a physiotherapy & pilates studio.
Divided into two spaces, the lower area accommodates administration, pilates studio and consultation rooms for Therapia. The upper area is tenanted space with access to a common reception area facing North Street.
Lighting was a major issue for the design due to the nature of warehouse spaces. Double glazed skylights were fitted. The upper studio space is offset from the existing side brick walls, allowing sunlight to penetrate deep into the building.
The existing roller door was removed and the opening fitted with glass opening out onto the street, retaining the existing facade. Low energy lighting is fitted throughout and positioned where task lighting is required.

The existing structure is left exposed, with large timber trusses and rough brick walls adding texture and context to the new design.
New walls were constructed using strawbale giving a soft appearance, with the benefits of acoustic dampening and thermal insulation to the consultation rooms.
New insulation was also added to the roof area throughout. With a practical design that incorporates sensible elements such as careful material selection and open light paths, the new home of Therapia offers a relaxing and enjoyable environment for clients and staff alike. |
